Our Work
What We Do
Autism Support
Mission: To establish an outstanding Special School and Service for children and young people affected by autism, ensuring that “no child or young person is left behind” and that “every child and young person receives the support they need to lead successful lives.”
Vision: To create a supportive, inclusive environment where every child and young person affected by autism can achieve their full potential, offering responsive, locally based services that address the needs of children and their families early on.
Learners with ASD deserve the opportunity to develop essential life skills to help them function as independently as possible in activities of daily lives, communication as well as interact socially.
Primary Education
Background: Uganda faces a surge in children and youth needing appropriate education and skills training for the labor market. Empower Lives Foundation supports a Primary School in Bukaaya Village, Busamuzi Parish, Buvuma District, targeting vulnerable children in this underprivileged area.
Mission: To improve class structures, enhance the learning environment, provide meals at school, and create a great workplace with highly engaged employees, ultimately leading to continued improvement in academic performance.

Vocational School
Transforming Communities Through Skills and Opportunity: Empower Lives Foundation
Empower Lives Foundation is dedicated to empowering communities through vocational training and skills development, focusing on young people, especially girls and women. Partnering with the Ssemanda Youth Project (SYP) in Mukono District, we have equipped over 150 youth with practical skills in agriculture, carpentry, tailoring, IT, business management, and entrepreneurship. These programs not only enhance employability but also foster entrepreneurship and economic growth.
By championing girls’ and women’s empowerment through specialized training in tailoring, agribusiness, and digital skills, we help them achieve financial independence. Our community-driven approach ensures sustainability by involving local stakeholders in program planning.
Join us in creating lasting change by supporting our mission to provide more youth with the skills they need to build brighter futures. Your contribution will empower generations to come!
WATER FOR LEARNING
REDESIGNING EDUCATION WITH ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER
Introduction to Mulago Bright Standard Primary School
Location: Mulago Bright Standard Primary School is located in Kawempe Division, Kampala Capital City, Central Uganda.
Community Context: The school operates within a challenging environment, as Mulago is part of the urban slums in Kampala, where poverty and high school dropout rates are prevalent.
Challenges of Water and Sanitation
1. Lack of Access to Clean Water: The absence of regular sources of clean water forces students to devote time to fetching water, which can otherwise be utilized for studying. Adequate drinking water is highly essential for maintaining students’ health and preventing water-borne diseases.
2. Poor Sanitation Facilities: Unclean and unhygienic toilets may lead to health issues and inconvenience among the students, particularly girls during menstruation. The lack of appropriate sanitation facilities can deter participation and affect learning attainment.
3.Influence on Education: Poor WASH conditions lead to absenteeism, especially among girls who will skip school during menstruation due to the lack of appropriate facilities4. The overall learning environment is affected when students concern themselves with basic needs like water and sanitation1.
4.Community and Socio-Economic Factors: The overall surrounding community situation within Mulago, such as congestion and poverty, exacerbates the issues in terms of providing enough water and sanitation services. Financial constraints limit the ability to construct and maintain proper sanitation facilities, further escalating the situation.
In 2012, a generous friend of the community donated a water tank to Mulago Bright Standard Primary School, which significantly improved access to clean water for our students. However, this vital resource unfortunately burst in 2020, leaving us once again without a reliable source of water.
Mulago Bright Standard Primary School has hundreds of children struggling every day for the absence of safe water. Students, especially pre-primary students, are too small to carry water, and this results in teachers and seniors going long distances, the majority of the time in dirty sources, to fetch water. This leads to absenteeism, poor hygiene, and avoidable diseases.
Empower Lives Foundation (ELF), with the collaboration of local leaders and Rotary Club of Mulago, is working towards this crisis through the Water for Learning project. With your contribution, we will install a sustainable rainwater harvesting system, build handwashing facilities, and provide hygiene education to ensure all students and teachers have access to clean water.
Why Water Matters
Hazardous Water & Illness: Children are usually affected by waterborne illnesses, impacting school attendance and learning achievement.
Water Collection at Far Distances: Teachers and young kids spend time collecting water instead of learning.
Unhygienic Behavior: Lack of handwashing facilities causes increased infections and absenteeism due to illness.
Our Solution:
The Water for Learning Project
We are putting up a sustainable, long-lasting solution for constant access to safe water for the teachers and students.
Project Components:
✅ Installation of a 10,000-litre sustainable water supply rainwater harvesting system.
✅ Construction of a handwashing station to improve hygiene practice.
✅ Installation of a water filtration system to supply safe drinking water.
✅ Hygiene and sanitation training to educate students, teachers, and the community.
✅ Monitoring and impact assessment to ascertain project success.
Impact: How Your Support Will Change Lives
✔ 600+ direct beneficiaries (students and teachers) will have access to clean water on a daily basis.
✔ 1,500+ indirect beneficiaries (community members and families) will be benefited from increased hygiene awareness.
✔ Waterborne disease reduction, leading to better health for children and more attendance at school.
✔ Long-term impact through community participation and ongoing maintenance by school staff
What Stakeholders Say
“Before, our little learners struggled every day. They would come to school tired because they had to fetch water early in the morning. Some would miss school entirely due to illness. This project will change everything. Clean water means better health, more learning, and hope for a brighter future.”
— Mrs. Mukose Head Teacher, Mulago Bright Standard Primary School
