Empower Lives Foundation is a broad alliance of individuals committed to improving the lives of poverty-stricken people in Uganda, East Africa, and Africa at large. Our team includes Ugandans, Canadians, South Americans, Australians, Tanzanians, and Kenyans.

Charles Mutyaba is a seasoned security consultant based in Canada with over 14 years of experience in the security sector. He has successfully initiated and managed projects aimed at transforming operations, identifying security threats, and implementing effective security measures. His expertise extends to designing and maintaining comprehensive security protocols, plans, and systems to mitigate potential threats.
Charles serves as the Canadian Representative for the Ugandan North American Association (UNAA), the largest non-political association of Ugandans in the diaspora. UNAA’s primary focus is promoting the social, cultural, and economic development of the Ugandan community in North America and beyond.
Committed to philanthropy, Charles has personally funded initiatives to alleviate hunger in the drought-affected Karamojong province of northeastern Uganda. He also supports educational programs in a rural primary school on an isolated island in Lake Victoria.
Currently, Charles, along with two Ugandan philanthropists, has co-founded a Not-for-Profit organization in Canada. This organization aims to assist both Canadian and Ugandan communities by providing resources and advice on humanitarian assistance, public health, climate change, aid and development, and youth rights.

Edmond Kalungi is an accomplished electrical engineer and energy utility business administrator with over 20 years of experience in the power sector. He has spearheaded numerous projects to improve operations in power distribution companies in Uganda.
His expertise lies in loss reduction, power system asset management, and project management. Currently, Edmond serves as the Distribution Management Expert at Energy Utility Corporation Limited, where he provides expertise in institutional strengthening and capacity-building operations.
A dedicated philanthropist, Edmond has been actively involved in humanitarian efforts in northeastern Uganda and in promoting education among rural Ugandan youth.
Edmond holds a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University.
Robert Ssebunya is a seasoned development, disaster risk, resilience, and humanitarian practitioner with experience in middle management and senior roles across various geographical regions. He adeptly combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience in his work.
Knowledge Areas
Robert specializes in disaster resilience, humanitarian operations, climate change, aid and development, and youth rights. He currently serves as the Country Director for Buvuma Christian Day and Boarding Primary School, where he applies his blend of theory and practice.
Robert holds a Bachelor of Arts with Education (History and Geography) from Makerere University, Kampala, and possesses a deep understanding of both “O” and “A” level History and Geography.
Jaira Kalungi is a dedicated advocate for social justice and human rights in East Africa. With a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Makerere University and 5years of experience in youth advocacy and communications, she has worked extensively with local NGOs to drive positive change and empower communities.
Nambajwe Best is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting). She has 5 years of experience in both the NGO and private sectors, providing strategic leadership in financial management. Best ensures that financial operations align with organizational strategies, policies, statutory regulations, and international financial standards. She brings extensive expertise in the NGO sector, driving compliance and efficiency in financial processes.
Kasule James began his career in water supply, spending six years drilling boreholes in rural villages of Uganda before joining the National Water and Sewerage Corporation. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Makerere University. James now works as the Program Coordinator at Empower Lives Foundation.
Gertrude Nakabuye is a dedicated social justice and human rights activist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Makerere University. Gertrude has extensive experience working with local NGOs focused on children’s rights and communication. She currently serves as the Program Coordinator at Empower Lives Foundation.
Martha Juliet Nakato is a Certified Public Accountant of Uganda (CPA-U) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Development Economics from Makerere University. With over 10 years of experience in finance and administrative roles in both the NGO and private sectors, Martha ensures the financial health and administrative efficiency of Empower Lives Foundation.
Susan Babirye is a social scientist with five years of experience working with NGOs in management, planning, fundraising, and gender-related issues. Her expertise includes policy analysis, campaigns and advocacy, capacity building, and information dissemination. Susan holds a Master of Arts Degree in Social Sciences (Public Administration), a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences (Sociology), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation. She serves as a Program Officer at Empower Lives Foundation.
Martin Otimu Johns is committed to environmental, social justice, and human rights causes in Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Makerere University and has over ten years of experience working with local NGOs in environmental advocacy and communication. Martin currently serves as the Communication Officer at Empower Lives Foundation.
